Seriously, at times the movie seems to highlight James Cameron’s secret to desire to start shooting National Geographic nature documentaries, because a big part of this movie is just that, as Jake and his family go to the water tribe of the Na’avi who teach them the ways of the water and as they adapt to their new environment. The movie has a strong emphasis on family which is developed very well with a lot of focus on Jake and Neytiri’s kids and a strong focus on the overall family dynamic.īut nonetheless, the main storyline is hardly any different from the first one, for it is once again the evil humans vs the environment loving Na’avi in a movie, though instead of just playing out merely like an environment protectionist lecture, it takes on a more personal angle thus adding greater emotional stakes to the narrative. The movie is definitely an improvement over the first one, though The Way of Water does tend to suffer its overly simple approach that is stylistically a bit self indulgent while not focusing much on the plot. The first thing that immediately comes to mind here are the visuals and damn are they not impressive! Seriously, watch this movie in 3D IMAX, because visually speaking, this may be the finest movie that has ever come out full of beautifully breathtaking shots that will leave you in disbelief. If you did then you are certain to love The Way of Water, if you did not, for all its technological improvements and production quality you are not going to find it all that great for the movie is built more or less the same way as its predecessor. Avatar: The Way of Water is finally out after 13 years, but has it been worth the wait? For most, the answer to that will depend heavily on one thing, did you like the first Avatar or not.
